This weeks Behind the Barn features Logan Jewell.
At Jewell Dale Farm Inc. in Meadowbank, dairy farming is truly a family affair. Logan works alongside his brothers Kyle and Joel, his parents Kevin and Cheryl, and their families — making it a full team effort!
The farm was started in the 1950s by Logan’s grandparents, Roy and Elaine Jewell. Today, they milk 120 cows using three DeLaval VMS robots in a free-stall barn. Logan’s favourite part of the job — working with the cows, and all aspects of herd management.
Thinking about getting into dairy farming? Logan says: “It’s tough work, but if your heart’s in it, there’s nothing more rewarding.”
