Behind the Barn: Meet Ben Mallett of Mallettdale Farm in York, PEI! Ben farms alongside his wife Kathryn and their four kids: Lillian, Stanley, Henry, and Ellen.
Together, they milk 30 cows using a pipeline milking system in a cozy tie-stall barn, bedded with straw and pasturing the herd during the summer months.
Ben is a fourth-generation dairy farmer, and while he’s been farming full time for 25 years, his roots in the barn go all the way back to his teenage years.
Favourite part of the job? “Working with the cows — especially bringing them in from pasture on a sunny summer evening.”
