Newland Farms Inc.

This week for our Behind the Barn feature, we are showcasing Erik & Danielle Verhulst of Newland Farms Inc. in Hunter River! Alongside their kids—Oliver, Henry, and Elsie—and Erik’s parents, Kees and Elly, they milk 300 cows in a free-stall barn using an external rotary system.

Originally from Holland, they made PEI home in 2002, and Erik has been farming full-time since 2007. His favourite part? Keeping the herd healthy by carefully managing every input. His advice to future farmers: “It’s very rewarding, but you’ve got to be all in.”
